Woodworking machinery is used in the process of woodworking which refers to the art of crafting wood products like furniture, wood statues, cabinets, decorative items etc by the processes of sawing, planing, steam bending, gluing, and finishing. All these operations are done by using a certain type of woodworking machinery. Woodworking includes several arts like carpentry, joinery, cabinetry, marquetry, turning, carving, pattern making etc.
To make wood crafts, first of all wood is prepared by the action of cleaning, sanding, using steel wool etc. The surface is also checked to find out nails and screws that may be already in the work piece which may damage the woodworking tools used for crafting if not removed. The holes and cracks are filled with crack fillers or putty. Finishing refers to the operation of preserving and giving desired appearance to the wood product by applying some suitable substance on its surface. Marking and Measuring Tools:-
The marking and measuring tools like measuring stick(ruler), try and combinational squares, gauges, etc are used for producing dimensional accuracy.
Cutting Tools:-
Cutting tools consists of a wide variety of saws like tenon saw, bow saw, crosscut saws used to cut wood across the direction of grains, rip saw used to cut the wood parallel to the direction of grains, dovetail saw, and various power saws like jigsaw, radial arm saw, circular saw, scroll saw etc.
Shaping Tools:-
The shaping tools used in woodworking includes gouges, lathe machine, rasps, routers, chisel, smoothing planes, rotary tool,scrub planes etc.(sequence and plurality changed).
Assembly Tools:-
Clamps, hammer, mallet, screwdriver, hand drill, power drills and clamps are some of the most frequently used assembly tools.
Finishing Tools:-
The list of finishing tool comprises of sandpaper, file, palm sander, scraper, disc sander and random orbit sander. For polishing and liquid finishing steel wool and bronze wool are used. For applying varnish or wood stain brushes are used.
Apart from the above mentioned tools various types of power driven woodworking machinery are used to reduce the work load from the woodworker and for bulk production of wood products.
