Machine tools can be simply defined as a mechanical object that works on the application of force. The machine tools are generally used for the manufacturing of metal parts used in machines. This is done by removing the layers of metal discriminatingly. The force/power used in the working of machine tools can be human power, animal power (through waterwheels) or electricity.
Brief History
It is believed that the first real machine tools were made when the straight human involvement was isolated from the manufacturing of the array of machine tools. The technology historians believed that near 1751, the lathe machine tools were made by Jacques de Vancanson. This is so because he was the one to rise the cutting instrument on an adjustable head.
At the end of second world war, the numeric control (NC) machine was invented. The motion of NC machine was regulated with the help of numerous numbers buffeted on the punch cards or paper tapes. Around 1960 NC machines started using computers in their process. Hence the name Computer Numeric Control(CNC) was given to the numeric control machines.
