IntroductionMachine tools can be simply defined as a mechanical object that works on the application of force. The machine tools are generally used for the manufacturing of metal parts used in machines. This is done by removing the layers of metal discriminatingly. The force/power used in the working of machine tools can be human power, animal power (through waterwheels) or electricity.
Brief HistoryIt is believed that the first real machine tools were made when the straight human involvement was isolated from the manufacturing of the array of machine tools. The technology historians believed that near 1751, the lathe machine tools were made by Jacques de Vancanson. This is so because he was the one to rise the cutting instrument on an adjustable head.
At the end of second world war, the numeric control (NC) machine was invented. The motion of NC machine was regulated with the help of numerous numbers buffeted on the punch cards or paper tapes. Around 1960 NC machines started using computers in their process. Hence the name Computer Numeric Control(CNC) was given to the numeric control machines.
Some of the Machine Tools- Burnishing Tools: - These are one of the most popular machine tools. The burnishing tools are used in finishing and sizing of the metals that are generally processed through the cold working. One can find different types of burnishing tools in the marketplace like Roller burnishing tools and external taper shaft burnishing tools. The burnishing tools are widely used in pneumatics, valve rods, valve guides, motor end covers etc.
- Embossing Tools:- Embossing tools are the type of machine tools that serve the purpose of making an embossing text and designs on the metal surface. The range of embossing tools consists of punches, die embossing, embossing machines and embossing stamps.
